Strategic Plan
The goal of AGC's 2005-2008 Strategic Plan is to make purposeful and focused strides towards achieving the association's long term vision of creating the best climate for construction in the U.S.A.
This compelling, audacious vision will make Washington a great place for your business, your employees, and your family to call home. It sets high standards and provides strong decision making criteria for AGC's actions.
Our Strategy:
1. A Strong Influence on Government Policy
AGC of Washington will be the leading influence for the construction industry. It will be the association’s highest priority that business, government agencies and the public view AGC as a responsible corporate citizen, effectively advocating its positions and participating in the decision making process of government at local, state and federal levels. Our members will participate in this process knowing their opinions matter, they have the opportunity to affect change and the direct and indirect benefits are significant. To achieve these goals, in 2005-2008 we
strive to:
- Reform the workers' compensation system by introducing private sector competition for insurance.
- Ensure reasonable environmental laws and regulations so that Washington can be competitive with other states and have a strong economy.
- Effect liability reforms so that contractors can get affordable insurance coverage.
- Increase funding for transportation, water and waste water programs.
- Ensure that contractors retain the right to manage their own workforce and job sites without government interference.
2. Developing a First Class Workforce
AGC of Washington will be positioned to attract, educate and retain a diversity of qualified people to meet the needs of the construction industry. We must ensure that the public is aware and confident that the construction industry creates a rewarding and safe place to work, provides a desired quality of life and strengthens local and state economies. We must provide programs and services which give individual members tangible return on investment. To achieve these goals, in 2005-2008 we
strive to:
- Provide quality craft education so that contractors have access to a well-trained workforce.
- Motivate men and women to choose construction as a career so that contractors have an adequate supply of well-trained workers.
- Provide first class continuing education so that we create opportunities for advancement and employee retention.
3. Unity Through Diversity
AGC of Washington will effectively represent the full diversity of the construction industry including women and minority contractors. We will sponsor programs to nurture the development of emerging construction firms. We will provide opportunities for professional and social interaction and a forum for the intellectual exchange of ideas. To achieve these goals, in 2005-2008 we
strive to:
- Increase AGC membership by working with effective organizations that support and grow women and minority owned businesses.
- Ensure that emerging construction businesses can be competitive in price and quality through an effective mentoring program.
