"I need help with a government agency!"

Although the Legislature considers many issues related to the environment during their yearly Legislative Sessions, the majority of the environmental rules and regulations that impact the construction industry are developed “in the trenches” of innumerable sub-committees and task forces that are created each year by federal, state and local agencies. These efforts include several subcommittees to develop of Stormwater and Shorelines Management Act rules at the State Department of Ecology, Transportation Permit Efficiency and Accountability Committee efforts to reduce the time and costs associated with the environmental permitting process, the State Building Code Council ESA Technical Advisory Groups work to adopt erosion control and spill prevention Best Management Practices in the State Building Code and numerous other regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local level. AGC of Washington Legislative staff actively participate in these various efforts in order to ensure that agency rules: comply with requirements of the state and federal Administrative Procedures Act; do not unduly burden the construction industry; comply with applicable laws; and are cost effective to implement.

In addition, AGC’s Legal Affairs Committee regularly reviews new or revised agency rules and regulations to ensure that they comply with applicable laws and, when necessary challenges unfair and illegal agency rules.
